Bodyboarding, an exciting and dynamic sport, can sometimes be accompanied by a few annoyances. Despite their ergonomic design, bodyboards can cause irritation to certain parts of the body. The torso, arms, armpits and stomach are particularly exposed to repeated rubbing against the surface of the board. The thin layer of lycra fabric acts as a protective barrier, considerably reducing the risk of skin irritation and overheating. In certain conditions, lycra is a better choice than a full wetsuit. When temperatures rise, as in the tropical spots of Bali, Hawaii or the Caribbean, where the water can reach 25°C or more, lycra offers appreciable freedom of movement while providing sufficient protection. It’s particularly suited to bodyboarding sessions in water temperatures between 22°C and 28°C. As well as protecting against chafing, lycra has other important benefits. It offers excellent protection against UV rays, essential for long sessions in the tropical sun. What’s more, it helps maintain a stable body temperature, preventing sudden bouts of cold when the currents change.
