5 good reasons to have a surf poncho

Putting on and taking off your wetsuit

In the old days, people would remove their wetsuit with a towel wrapped around their waist. However, this technique is far from optimal: the towel quickly falls, leading to guaranteed embarrassment at the spot. Even though most swimmers still change this way, it’s clear that the neoprene of the wetsuit makes the maneuver even more complicated.

That’s how, in the early 2010s, the first surf ponchos appeared, particularly with our brand ALL-IN in 2012.

The poncho allows you to remove or put on your wetsuit while maintaining your privacy and without having to contort yourself in every direction. Its loose fit lets you move your legs without risking a fall. And the draping sleeves of our ponchos provide comfort while protecting you from prying eyes.

Dry off comfortably

Yes, our ponchos are made from the same material as traditional towels! The goal is simply to dry off effectively and with a certain level of comfort.

The advantage of the surf poncho is that it dries almost the entire body: from head to legs. You just need to put it on, and the natural movement will allow the cotton to absorb the water.

Protecting from the sun in summer and from the cold in winter

One advantage per season, not bad, right? In winter, a poncho is ideal after surfing because it allows you to warm up quickly thanks to the good coverage it offers over the body. In contrast, a towel only covers a small part of the body, leaving the rest exposed to the cold.

In summer, it’s also beneficial to cover up to avoid sunburn. The poncho can be worn as a transition after surfing and before heading home, allowing you to enjoy the beach while avoiding the sun.

Protecting your car from damage

Some surfers are accustomed to getting into their cars while still wet, with or without a wetsuit. Unfortunately, the salty ocean water will quickly deteriorate the car seat, especially if you don’t use a seat cover for surfing.

An alternative to the cover is simply to stay in your poncho until you get home, before taking a shower. Personally, I’ve been doing it this way for years, and my seat is still in great condition!

To use it at home

Yes, even though ponchos are associated with surfing, they can also be used at home! They work great as a bath poncho, or even for getting out of the pool for those lucky enough to have one!

Pockets and an adjustable hood

Pockets are not a minor detail on a poncho when you’re a surfer! They allow you to store wax, tools, your phone, keys, in short, lots of things you like to have on you but are hard to carry.

Personally, I couldn’t do without them; when I get home after surfing, having my keys in the pocket saves me some hassle, especially since there’s all the gear to carry: board/wetsuit/backpack, etc.

The adjustable hood is a nice addition to be able to tighten it to your liking.

Surf ponchos designed for the whole family

ALL-IN has always offered different styles of ponchos to suit the various needs of the family. For women, we offer “T” shaped ponchos. This simply means that the cut is designed to make it impossible for anyone to see the chest of the person wearing the poncho.

For men, with fewer constraints, we used our loose Beach Crew fit.

Note that the “Men’s” ponchos are 10cm longer and wider than the “Women’s” ponchos. What difference does it make? If you’re a woman 1m63 or taller, not much, you can choose from both collections. But for shorter women (under 1m63), we recommend opting for “Women’s” models only!
