In January 2020, we went on an adventure with our rider and long-time friend Thomas Traversa, a specialist in storm chasing in windsurfing.
For those who don't know Thomas Traversa, he was World Wave Champion in 2014 and winner of the Red Bull Storm Chase, so he is the most talented windsurfer of his generation in waves and really extreme conditions.
Off to Spain, and more specifically Galicia, for a quick but intense trip!
Arriving at the spot, and knowing Thomas, we weren't surprised to land on a wave that, while undeniably beautiful, wasn't exactly inviting: a nasty, big slab (a wave breaking over an exposed reef), a tricky launch, but still much easier than getting back on shore! And of course, a completely offshore wind of around 60 knots (gusts over 100 km/h). The experts will understand 😅
Yes, we were indeed in Thomas's paradise, a spot that only he can ride with ease, rocks everywhere, an ultra-strong wind, big, powerful waves, and a coastline configuration that doesn't really offer a safe way to get back to shore after a session! He's never opted for a gentle return with his gear, preferring swimming and rock climbing!
